The administration of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is now making good on his threats to start withholding money from schools that are defying his ban on mask mandates during the novel coronavirus pandemic.

According to Miami Herald reporter Ana Ceballos, Florida Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran announced on Friday that "the state will withhold state funds from Broward and Alachua public schools, targeting school officials compensation, as a result of them violating Gov. On Thursday, KGUN reported that the Biden administration is threatening to take back $163 million in federal grants to Arizona if Republican Gov. Doug Ducey follows through with a plan to distribute it only to school districts that do not impose mask mandates.

"The Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education and the Treasury Department are backing up Congressman Raul Grijalva's opinion that Governor Ducey may be breaking the law with his plan to stop school districts from imposing mask mandates," reported Craig Smith. FAA plans $500,000 in new fines against violent and anti-mask passengers: report

On Thursday, CNN reported that the Federal Aviation Administration is planning $500,000 in new fines against unruly passengers, including some who attacked flight crews and fellow passengers in arguments over wearing face masks to stop the spread of COVID-19.

"Of the incidents detailed by federal investigators for the first time, nearly two-thirds involve passengers accused of violating the federal transportation-wide mask mandate, which was just extended by the Transportation Security Administration to remain in place through January 18," said the report. "Federal documents show that nine of the 34 incidents involve a passenger accused of touching or hitting another person on the plane, including crew members. Eight passengers are accused of illegally drinking alcohol they brought on board the plane."
