Over the weekend, the Republican Party has generated conspiracies to cover up the real story about the right-wing violence against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband. The attacker has confessed to police, saying that his efforts were motivated by fringe conspiracy theories linked to the right wing.

"So, let's get this straight: we have a full confession," began former FBI counterintelligence assistant director Frank Figliuzzi. "We have an FBI agent representing the Department of Justice writing the affidavit containing the full confession. We have the United States attorney's office representing our Department of Justice saying we're prosecuting this person for Title 18, Section 115, assault on an immediate family member of a federal official and we're adding — because he was so kind to confess to us — we're adding a separate charge of kidnapping. And what is the response? Within minutes if not seconds, complete inability to accept what our institutions are telling us. San Francisco PD, the district attorney in a major city in America. No, don't believe them."

Alyssa Farah Griffin joined the voices of those calling out Republicans refusing to be unified against political violence after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband Paul was attacked by an apparent QAnon supporter.

Griffin said that at the time of the attack on the Congressional baseball game she recalled every Democratic member in office uniformly denouncing the shooter and his actions, and rooted for Rep. Steve Scalise's (R-LA) recovery. She claims that didn't happen among the GOP.

A panelist on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" drew a straight line between Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's conspiracy theories and the attack on House speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband.

Paul Pelosi was severely beaten by a hammer-wielding assailant in a politically motivated attack, and Florida prosecutor Dave Aronberg blamed Republican elected officials for encouraging violence.

MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski singled out Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) for scorn over his reaction to the attempted assassination of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

The Texas senator amplified right-wing conspiracy theories suggesting the assailant had a sexual relationship with Paul Pelosi, who suffered brain injuries in the attack, and the "Morning Joe" co-host shamed him and Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake for cracking jokes about the assault.

Political violence in the United States is continuing to get worse and with easy access to weapons of mass death, there is a fear that it could generate larger body counts.

At the top of her Monday show, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow noted a strange comment from right-wing personality Steve Bannon about outgoing Bazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. According to Bannon, Bolsonaro shouldn't accept the results of the election, just as Donald Trump refused in 2020. Bolsonaro said previously that he would stage a coup if he lost.

"Why do you care, Steve Bannon? This is the part that's about us, that's about us and our country and our election next week," said Maddow. "Why do you think it is that this top White House adviser to former president Donald trump, why do you think it is that he's telling this guy in Brazil, this Trump-like far-right, buffoonish, unpopular Brazilian president who has been voted out of office?"

On Monday, former President Donald Trump filed an emergency request with the Supreme Court, asking that they block the Internal Revenue Service from turning over his tax returns to congressional investigators. It comes following last week's ruling by the Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit that cleared the way for the documents to be transmitted to the House Ways and Means Committee. Meanwhile, Trump faces a civil suit from New York State, alleging that his family business kept two sets of books to avoid paying taxes while fraudulently inflating assets to banks and insurers.

But even though the Supreme Court has six justices sympathetic to right wing causes, including three justices personally appointed by Trump, former impeachment counsel Norm Eisen told CNN's Kate Bolduan that the former president is unlikely to prevail in this gambit.

It was reported on Sunday that David Raskin, one of the top prosecutors in the country when it comes to stolen government documents, joined the Justice Department team investigating Donald Trump's documents he took from the White House to Mar-a-Lago. As the Washington Post explained, it shows that the DOJ is very serious and they're moving toward prosecuting the former president.

"They are now focusing on the confidential documents that were kept at Mar-a-Lago, endangering our national security. That's why you are bringing in someone who is a specialist in national security," said former Watergate prosecutor Jill Wine-Banks. "The recent reporting about documents coming from that pile that involved Iran and China are really scary and threaten our security. It's a very smart thing to focus on that. It makes it very hard for the Department of Justice not to pursue this to an indictment."
