Jan. 6 committee called staff 'uninformed' for attacking Liz Cheney — but former GOP official doesn't buy it

Former Rep. Denver Riggleman (R-VA) was "stunned" when he read the recent Washington Post report about staffers on the House Select Committee working to uncover the attempt to change the 2020 election and attack the Capitol. According to the Post, the staff said that the committee turned to become the 2024 Liz Cheney presidential campaign and go directly after Donald Trump and not focus the report on a broad effort to uncover all of the people involved from the House to the Senate and White House.

"Fifteen former and current staffers, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations, expressed concerns that important findings unrelated to Trump will not become available to the American public," said the Post.

The GOP is just not that into Trump — for now

Republicans are not that into Donald Trump's 2024 campaign run, but this movie has played many times before as Republicans feign interest before ultimately submitting to the beloved commander-in-chief of GOP voters.

Politico explained Sunday that Trump’s 2024 announcement has been "followed by a raft of potential 2024 contenders appearing at the Republican Jewish Coalition conference in Las Vegas over the weekend, where at least one Republican who had previously said she would defer to Trump if he ran — former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley — now said she is considering running in a 'serious way.'"

McCarthy 'will have to pull a rabbit out of a hat' to become House speaker: analyst

Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) may be the first leader to have an actual floor fight for his speaker vote in nearly 100 years, said Tara Palmeri, Puck News senior political reporter.

Speaking to MSNBC's Yasmin Vossoughian on Sunday, Palmeri explained that McCarthy had a few dozen, or so, members that didn't support him during the caucus vote. At the same time, he only has a very small majority. So he can't afford to lose even a hand full of votes.

Justice Department calling for Mike Pence shows they're reaching the end of their investigation: former prosecutor

Former federal prosecutor Paul Butler thinks that the fact the Justice Department is calling for former Vice President Mike Pence to sit down with them is an indication they're wrapping up their probe into Donald Trump's role in the attempt to overthrow the 2020 election

"Even if Mike Pence is agreeable to testify, Donald Trump would certainly try to slow-walk this by claiming executive privilege," Butler explained. "That is not a credible claim in this case for a few reasons. First of all, it's [President Joe] Biden's privilege, not Trump's executive privilege. It belongs to the current occupant of the White House. There's also a crime-fraud exception. You can't claim the privilege to try to cover up a crime by you or by somebody else. And also, Pence talked extensively about his interactions with Donald Trump in his recent book and so he waived it. You can't say I don't want to talk to a grand jury about it but write about it in a book."

Detailed analysis shows how moderate Arizona GOP voters helped defeat Trump-backed candidates

In Arizona, the election results show that it wasn't about Democratic turnout in the November election that helped defeat far-right Republican candidates. It turns out it was GOP voters themselvs, the Arizona Republic reported Wednesday.
