Rudy Giuliani extends happy birthday wishes to Trump -- and it doesn't go well

On the former president's 75th birthday, Giuliani -- who served as Trump's advocate during the past four years which led to his own legal problems -- tweeted to Trump, "Happy Birthday, President Trump! Everyone says they miss your policies!"

DC cop slams 'disgraceful' Trump allies and new Republican 'report' that downplays GOP's role in Jan. 6

On CNN Tuesday, DC Metro Police Officer Michael Fanone, whose body camera footage graphically showed him being attacked while defending the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, discussed the new Senate report on the riot — and laid into allies of former President Donald Trump who egged it on with their words.

"I thought it was a good start," said Fanone. "But ... it doesn't go into the root causes. Some of the questions that I still have: Who are these groups that are involved in the insurrection that day? What is their, if any, communication that they may have had with members of their government and their staff? And also, where's the funding for these groups coming from, and what type of communication had they had prior to Jan. 6th?"

'There could be extortion' in Giuliani case — and Biden's DOJ won't 'paper this over': Ex-prosecutor

On CNN Monday, former federal prosecutor Elie Honig said that the evidence against Rudy Giuliani for his dealings in Ukraine — including the newly released recording of him appearing to demand a quid pro quo — will be thoroughly investigated now that former President Donald Trump no longer controls the Justice Department.

"This incident, the pressuring of Ukraine, has sort of receded in history in a way that it shouldn't have, because this was the subject of an impeachment," said Honig. "But this recording should remind us there are still potential crimes here. DOJ, under Donald Trump, under Bill Barr, papered this over and covered this up. They refused to open an investigation into potential crimes."

New Rudy Giuliani recording 'brings to life' Trump's Ukraine quid pro quo: former SDNY chief

On CNN Monday, following the release of an audio tape that appears to show Rudy Giuliani discussing a quid pro quo deal with Ukrainian officials to get dirt on President Joe Biden's family, former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara broke down the implications.

"Some of the information is not new, but as we've seen in other contexts in courtrooms around the country, if you have video and you have audio and if you're lucky enough to have both, that crystallizes and brings to life the contact of the person being examined," said Bharara. "That's true here: Rudy Giuliani, in a pressing tone, asking for things that only make sense in the political context that he was in in that year. And that is that President Trump and the people around him were very concerned about a political rival, not about corruption in the Ukraine or the United States, but a political rival by the name of Joe Biden."
